So this starts out as the typical pair of males finding life mate and their alien culture is into strong dominance resulting in what most people would consider a type of rape initially only to change over time to something that is more even. The differences which cause me to put this book as a single star are 1) I resent it setting up the scene to introduce the new culture to M/M sexual relations. It does not quite happen here but the entire last half of book just sets the whole thing up for the books (strong themes in books 2 and 3) to come. 2) tires to make heroine spunky by having a horrible mouth insulting the males but in reality she looks pretty weak willed and pretty helpless, not someone to look up to even if the author tries hard to develop a spunky kid growing up in hard conditions background and 3) I am ok with a menage but I really dislike the casual way the second male in this menage takes his bond. It is basically a for sex bond that he can break when he finds his true bond...which comes in second book. The author is not just entertaining with her books, she is pushing a culture. I will stay away from all of her books.Product details

This alien menage is heavily into forced bondage and forced spanking, with minimal consent from the woman for anything. Some good erotica, but not as much as I expected. The 2nd man blows hot and cold, emotionally involved some times and inexplicably saying that this is a temporary marriage for him at other points. The spanking scene is enough to put you off consentual spanking forever, an extremely poor execution with no consent at all. The book has lots and lots of anal play. The sex is too close to abuse and rape for my comfort, and I am pretty tolerant in my erotica.
The alien men used to be subjugated by their women. They essentially underwent societal revolution (within their lifetime) and now the men's goal is to subjugate women. Blech! Most of the men's poor behavior felt like they were taking past grievances with other women out on the leading lady. The leading lady has a foul mouth, an explosive temper, and never tries to negotiate or compromise. The men don't either, so I guess they are a good match.
Ironically, I liked the one aspect of the book that I expected to hate. The author did a good job with the leading lady's late puberty (i.e., sudden giant boobs). The alien man's reaction to a BJ was pretty funny.
The story is well written, but for me, it just was not romantic at all. The characters spend so much time bickering, and I couldn't figure out at what point they were supposed to have grown to care, let alone love, each. And the constant punishment with the heroine not being allowed to be right about anything? And the humiliation? When is humiliation ever part of a dom/sub relationship? And what the heck happened with the one H? I am so disappointed. I invested my own time and emotion, and it ends like THAT? If had not been written so well as far as other story elements like world building, I would have given it fewer stars. I doubt I will continue with the series.
Because I don't really like ménage, at all would be more accurate. All the good from the beginning of this book came crashing down.
I seriously lost any interest in the story after that but I kept reading.
I absolutely don't know how to rate this book.
I loved the beginning (read the sample) and synopsis again before buying it. And thought it was seriously be a good read and at least another série to follow. But although, as great and interesting as he could be, the second male character, Shauss, who's playing the secondary mate in the ménage, destroyed for me all the romance built between the other two main character, Monica and Kellen.
The sex and scenes get at the end a bit tedious and ridiculous. Even if I had some affection for this secondary character, I wished for him to just go away.
So I'm in a bit of a fix at the end of the book. I like the story in its generality, but the main romance and relationship, destroyed, for me, the potential of the story.
I know a lot would not agree... when you see the reviews, but it's just the type of book which doesn't suite me. And I wished a warning would have been put on the page that this was a ménage, I most likely will not have bought it, not even read the sample.
Having read it. I recognize the writing was very good. The idea interesting and the execution well done.
But thinking of all the things that are in this book and I don't really enjoy reading, I cannot put more than 3 stars.
I would even settle for 2.
